Well I'll be damned. Go a few days without much activity on the site, and Dr. Hook gets a half dozen comments and a bevy of emails in just a few hours. Maybe I'm writing about the wrong shit. You can't hate on Classic Rock. Hell, I listen to Punk about 80% of the time, but you can always make time for the classics. And since I got a few emails asking bout Dr. Hook and similar stuff, here are the 20 classic rock songs you should go on ITunes and buy right now - at least for an introduction. If you are feeling especially miserly, shoot me an email and I'll send you a zip file with all of 'em, just don't tell no one.
- Bob Dylan - Tangled Up In Blue
- Neil Young - Southern Man
- Led Zeppelin - Ramble On
- Bob Marley and the Wailers - Exodus
- The Doors - Roadhouse Blues
- The Who - Baba O'Riley
- David Bowie - Heroes
- The Grateful Dead - Friend of the Devil
- U2 - Sunday Bloody Sunday
- The Rolling Stones - Paint It Black
- Van Morrison - Moondance
- Motorhead - Ace of Spades
- Bruce Springsteen - Born To Run
- Alice Cooper - I'm Eighteen
- The Beatles - A Day in the Life
- Del Shannon - Runaways
- The Animals - House of the Rising Sun
- Cream - Crossroads
- Bob Dylan - Masters of War
- Credence Clearwater Revival - Fortunate Son
- The Grateful Dead - Turn On Your Love Light
Course I am leaving out some gems. Pretty much couldn't narrow down The Stooges, The Velvet Underground, or David Bowie's Low to one or two songs, but everyone should own all of that as well. And, of course, if you really want to get into great music, The Clash's London Calling and Black Flag's Damaged are the best two hours of music you will be able to find . . .
